Radio One, Inc. Hires Tom Calococci as Program Director of KBXX in Houston

WASHINGTON, May 16, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Radio One, Inc. (Nasdaq: ROIAK; ROIA) announced today that, effective May 28, 2002, it has hired Tom Calococci as Program Director of KBXX 97.9 in the Houston, Texas market. In this position, Mr. Calococci will direct the overall programming of the station. He will report to Mark McMillen, General Manager of the Houston stations.

Mr. Calococci returns to Radio One from Clear Channel Communications' KZZP in Phoenix, Arizona where he worked for the last year as Program Director. Radio One first employed him in April 1996 as Program Director of WERQ-FM (92Q) in Baltimore, Maryland. When he arrived, 92Q was in a head-to-head battle with WXYV-FM (V103) with neither station dominating the other. Within six months, 92Q was on its way to becoming the market leader, and within another year, WXYV flipped from urban to CHR. In March 1998, Radio One promoted Mr. Calococci to Director of East Coast Programming where he was responsible for the Baltimore, Philadelphia and Boston markets. In December 1999, Mr. Calococci debuted Boston's first-ever FM urban formatted radio station for Radio One. Prior to working for Radio One, Mr. Calococci successfully programmed Summit's KJMZ in Dallas. He also held the position of West Coast Regional Promotion Manager for Jive Records in Los Angeles.

Commenting on the hiring, Mark McMillen, the Station's General Manager stated, "The Box is Houston's heritage Hip Hop and R & B station. With an 11- year legacy to protect, the decision of who would lead us through our second decade was of extreme importance. We interviewed many qualified candidates for this position, but in the end, Tom Calococci was clearly above the others. We always prefer to associate with people who 'get' the uniqueness of The Box. When we launched the station in 1991, Tom was involved with certain programming elements that assisted us in becoming the number one station in Houston. He followed the station throughout the years and clearly understands why we are what we are. Tom is an excellent addition to our staff."
