Radio One, Inc. Promotes Tamara Knechtel to Vice President of Operations

Will Assist the Chief Operating Officer in Overseeing All Operations of the Company Will Continue as General Manager of the Company's Detroit Stations

Radio One, Inc. (Nasdaq: ROIAK; ROIA) announced on May 7, 2002, that it has promoted Tamara Knechtel to Vice President of Operations. In this newly created position, Ms. Knechtel will report to the Company's Chief Operating Officer, Mary Catherine Sneed and assist her in overseeing all operations of the Company. In addition, she will continue as General Manager for the Company's Detroit stations WDTJ-FM, WCHB-AM and WDMK-FM. Ms. Knechtel will continue to be based in the Detroit market.

Ms. Knechtel joined Radio One, Inc. in August 1998 as General Manager of the Company's Detroit stations. Prior to joining Radio One, Ms. Knechtel served as General Sales Manager of CBS's WYCD-FM for two years. From 1994 to 1996, she worked at Infinity/CBS in Detroit as their Director of Sales. Ms. Knechtel's interest in radio was ignited after obtaining a college internship with Interep Radio Store.
